So Valentine's Day brought out the romantic in us and thus it was on a chilly Thursday night, we logged to check out Sarah Beeny's dating website, mysinglefriend.com. For those of you unfamiliar with the site, the idea is that you get a friend to write your profile for you as a 'recommendation to others. So you sign up and then give the site details of the friend who you want to write your 'reference' as it were.
Initially, we were impressed, the site has a friendly tone and guided you through the sign up process. The layout is bright and the descriptions simple. So we signed up, nominated our friend, then get on the phone to get them to do the write up straight away, which they did. And this is where the problems started.
We signed up on the Thursday, by Monday we were still awaiting the 'profile approved' email. No joy. So on Monday afternoon, we emailed them and asked if there was a problem. Today they came back with the response that the email address of our friend was too generic and needed to have the first name and second of the reference within the email. What?! This is ridiculous, firstly this should be made clear when signing up and secondly not everyone has a firstname.secondname email address, don't know about you but our friends are called silly things like Yorkie1980.
So we told them we were upset and asked them to cancel the profile, thinking they will find a way round it for us, as a valued customer. We then get an email saying the problem is they don't have the surname of the referee. We thought the problem was the email address? They send an email ahppily confirming the profile has been cancelled. Don't know where they went to customer service school, but how about trying to find a way to keep the customer, rather than happily waving them off to another dating website.
And this is the problem with mysinglefriend.com, It's trying too hard to be your fluffy mate and isn't really worrying about the detail. So this is not a site we can recommend. You'd be much better off with Dating Direct or Match.com where the profile approval and customer service is ten times more professional.
